X-ray film and hanger clips are used during X-ray development to position and hold the radiograph, eliminate streaking, and maintain tension and alignment.
The category of x-ray film holders can refer to products designed to help with several parts of the film x-ray process. All of these devices are meant to hold the film during a specific part of exposing, developing and displaying, or documenting an x-ray. X-ray holders designed
for intraoral use attach to the film and help clinicians properly position it within the patient's mouth. These holders also make it easier to keep the film in the proper position. Other film-holders are designed to clip to the edges of the exposed films so they can be submerged in developing chemicals. These holders are usually plastic or metal and should feature strong clips that can maintain their grip on the films.

Direction of use

Position and hold the radiograph, eliminate streaking and maintain tension and alignment in the GDC film holder and then follow the following steps:


Development - The developing agent gives up electrons to convert the silver halide grains to metallic silver. Grains that have been exposed to the radiation develop more rapidly, but given enough time the developer will convert all the silver ions into silver metal. Proper temperature control is needed to convert exposed grains to pure silver while keeping unexposed grains as silver halide crystals.
Stopping the development - The stop bath simply stops the development process by diluting and washing the developer away with water.
Fixing - Unexposed silver halide crystals are removed by the fixing bath. The fixer dissolves only silver halide crystals, leaving the silver medal behind.
Washing - The film is washed with water to remove all the processing chemicals.
Drying - The film is dried for viewing.
